The Smart Set assures us that terror in the name of Allah is solely as a result of Christian misconduct, such as the Crusades and the creation and maintenance of the nation of Israel.
A glance at the history of Islam, however, raises troubling questions. Islamic forces invaded Europe, via modern-day Spain and Portugal, early in the 8th Century. The Crusades were not launched until the 12th Century, roughly 400 years later. Islamic forces were not driven from Spain until the late 15th Century, some 700 years after they arrived uninvited.
Was this invasion the ultimate pre-emptive strike?
We need not comment on the Islamic "logic" that Spain should be returned to them because they took it by force, making it improper, if not immoral and illegal, for the resident Christians to take it back by force.
